Leon Cooperman and David Rocker in “Conversation”

In October, JCF’s Professional Advisor’s Network (PAN) presented “A Conversation on the Investment Outlook and Philanthropy with Lee Cooperman and David Rocker,” an evening program chaired by Michael Schechner and moderated by Peter Langerman. Eugenia Yudanin is chair of the PAN Committee, and serves with Michael and Peter on the JCF Board of Trustees.

It was an informative, engaging, entertaining, and deeply inspiring program with two pillars of the investment community. Both the Cooperman and Rocker families have deep roots in our Greater MetroWest community and we are grateful for the trust they have placed in JCF.  As Lee reminded us, the Talmud states that “A man’s net worth is measured not by what he earns but rather what he gives away.”

JCF President Robert G. Kuchner, David Rocker, event moderator Peter Langerman, Leon G. Cooperman, event chair Michael Schechner, PAN chair Eugenia Yudanin, JCF Executive Director Stanley H. StoneThe PAN committee engages professionals in the fields of law, insurance, wealth management, and tax and estate planning, bringing engaging speakers together with Federation donors and JCF fund holders to advance their philanthropy. Important Deadlines for Non-Cash Donations in 2016

A non-cash donation of stocks or mutual funds is a great way to support the UJA Annual Campaign, reduce your taxable estate by adding to a donor advised fund (DAF)*, or strengthen an annual campaign endowment. Individuals who are 70½ or older can also authorize an IRA charitable rollover to fulfill a pledge to Federation or support JCF.

Please keep in mind that non-cash gifts can take longer to realize, due to the individual nature of each financial institution. We have compiled the following recommended guidelines to help you navigate the process for giving to Federation and JCF at year end. (Please note, our offices are closed on November 24 and 25 and December 26.)

December 1 – Deadline to initiate Gifts of Mutual Funds. Call Beverly Kestenbaum at (973) 929-3063 to get started.

December 15 – Deadline for DAF grant recommendation(s) for distribution in 2016. (Recommendations received after this date will continue to be processed, but may not be mailed until January 2017).

December 15 – Deadline to initiate an IRA Charitable Rollover (for individuals who are 70½ or older). Call Beverly Kestenbaum at (973) 929-3063 to get started.

December 27 – Deadline to initiate Gifts of Stock. Call Jean Cook at (973) 929-3007 to give to UJA, or Beverly Kestenbaum at (973)929-3063 to give stock to a DAF*, endowment, or as an outright gift.

December 30 at noon – Deadline for 2016 Credit Card donations to UJA and/or an endowment or DAF at JCF. Call (973) 929-3198 to charge a donation.

December 31 Checks must be postmarked by December 31. In 2016 the 31st is a Saturday, so please confirm the weekend hours of your local post office

*Don’t have a DAF? Open one in 2016 and take a tax deduction for the entire gift, while reserving the right to make recommendations from your Fund to qualified charities (e.g. synagogue, alma mater, Federation) throughout the year.

Thank you for supporting our Jewish community with your philanthropy. If you have any questions or concerns, contact JCF at (973) 929-3113 or jcf@jfedgmw.org.
