Create A Jewish Legacy Is Off to a Great Start

JCF is proud to announce a fruitful summer for the Create a Jewish Legacy program. More than $1.3 million has been committed so far through planned gifts by people wishing to assure a strong Jewish future for our community.

"We could not be happier with the excitement the program is generating, and the bequests [and other planned gifts] that are being made as a result,” said Ken Heyman, CJL Chair. “People are really getting it, getting how important it is to plan for the future of the synagogues, schools and agencies they’re connected with. The organizations are engaging their members, donors and other supporters, and the generosity of the commitments is just tremendous.”

"This program has really encouraged our board members and the families we serve to remember JSDD (Jewish Service for the Developmentally Disabled) in their wills and other estate planning tools," said JSDD President Barry Goldberg of Livingston. “We’re thrilled with every legacy gift, because we want JSDD to be alive and well for generations to come.”

The CJL program recognizes planned gifts that are newly established, and many that were created in the past. Did you include a CJL organization in your estate years ago? If so, please let them know! Most legacy commitments – old or new - count toward the incentive grants available from JCF to these partner organizations.

Karen Secular, CJL program coordinator, said, “It’s been great meeting the many people who have already provided for a CJL organization in their estate plan, through life insurance, a bequest, retirement account or Charitable Gift Annuity. They are doing something important for the future that they might not be in a position to do today. More than a million dollars - and we’re just getting started!”

Donor Advised Funds and Year-End Philanthropy

By opening a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) at JCF, you’ll get a 2014 tax deduction yet retain the right to direct your philanthropic support to almost any 501(c)(3) organization in Greater MetroWest NJ, the United States, Israel or around the world.

"We love the idea that our Donor Advised Fund is an easy and tax advantaged way to help the Jewish community," said Ariel Nelson, who opened a DAF with his wife Melissa Feldman. “It was simple to set up and grant making is even easier. Our fund is alive and growing, and JCF is a great resource through which we can support the charities most important to us.”

DAF holders can make recommended distributions from their Funds via email, fax or online at any time, day or night. Distributions can support non-profit synagogues, schools, social service organizations, the arts, and more – almost any organization recognized as a tax-exempt organization in the United States (including American offices of Israeli charities).
